Q&A with Urban Reform on the global fitness trend that’s landed at Exchange Quay

Hyrox has officially landed at Exchange Quay, with more than 300 people signed up for classes. We caught up with the team to hear how the launch has gone and why this new global fitness trend is proving such a hit with the campus community.

How did the opening week go – what has the atmosphere been like in the new Hyrox studio?

The launch day was a fantastic showcase of how Hyrox and the format behind it can unite this business park. It was great to see all the employees working together to complete elements of the sessions and all engaging throughout the day.

Already the feelings are really positive and vibrant which proves that it was a hit with clients. We have had numerous clients wishing to explore completing a race already and with the wellness centre being Hyrox affiliated, we will support them through this experience and get them access to race tickets.

We are also building up to hosting our own hybrid style fitness event before Christmas in the new wellness centre. This will provide a great buzz around the campus and add to the atmosphere in future sessions.

You’ve already had more than 300 sign-ups, with numbers growing fast. Why do you think Hyrox is striking such a chord with people here at Exchange Quay?

The rise and popularity of Hyrox globally already gave us confidence that this would be a unique offer for Exchange Quay and one that would capture the audience. The inclusive nature of the race is what I feel gives people the urge to try it. Hence the tagline being ‘The fitness race for everyone’.

After the first week, we doubled sign-ups and the numbers are growing. The space is really welcoming and it’s accessible to everyone which is already attractive. To further add to the attractiveness off the offer, we also have 2 levels of classes available, so it ensures people get the right support from the coaches and the class is pitched at the right level. This is a key factor in ensuring clients return to the space. We have to make it challenging but achievable and that’s where the skill lies with our coaching team to ensure people come back.

The key attractive element of this offer is that the experience is always different and always positive and maintaining this for employees will be key to the longevity of the offer.

What feedback have you had from participants during the first week of classes? What are they enjoying most about Hyrox?

Those participating have all said how amazing they feel after a hybrid style workout. Lots of clients are new to this style of training. The short bursts of energy produce surges in chemical responses through endorphins and a lot of clients have mentioned how uplifted they have felt afterwards. When you measure the uplifting feeling of completing something challenging, coupled with the teamwork and the boost employees get off that, it’s a great success so far. The business campus and tenants have the potential to thrive in all areas of their work.

For those who are new to Hyrox, what makes this type of training different from other fitness classes?

These classes and format of workouts will offer lots of variety and the combination of cardiovascular-based exercises and weighted exercises is a unique experience. The skill required is quite low, therefore consistently being able to think about effort level will focus more of output. Focussing more on output will lead to positive progressions and adaptations which will support clients on their journey to achieving more.
