Manchester’s 472,000 sq ft flagship Grade A office campus, Exchange Quay, in partnership with interior designer, Jasper Sanders + Partners, has completed the transformation of its wayfinding totems into vibrant and contemporary sculptural forms within the landscape.
The new design of the seven totems has seen each transformed into towers of colour, light and angles which is intended to represent the fluid interchange of people across the campus. Each totem presents a different face whether it is from ground level to the upper floor of the buildings on site or to those who seek direction or are walking past.
Jasper Sanders + Partners’ design vision for these key wayfinding steel totems was to include a wide spectrum of colours with different hues and tonality on every face of each individual totem. Following detailed colour studies, the colours selected are in a broad spectrum of tertiary colours, ranging from intense acid yellow to desaturated terracotta and cobalt blue.

Using this colour palette each of the seven totems has been designed to individually reflect the internal and external character of each building and the surrounding landscape it signposts as well as maintaining a collective identity with all the totems across the campus. This has been achieved through each of the totems being distinct yet connected, reinforcing the idea of collaboration to reflect the diverse range of occupiers across the site. Les Lang, Director, Till AM said: “The completion of the new totems is an excellent example of our continued investment programme into Exchange Quay and creating the best office campus experience for our occupiers. Transforming the external presence and wayfinding materials and our ongoing focus on wellness in the workplace as well as offering flex, traditional and fully fitted and furnished office space, is part of our ongoing commitment to ensuring both current and prospective occupiers have access to the highest quality office campus in Manchester”.
